Obituary for Toni Marie O'Brien (Altier)

Toni Altier O'Brien, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and compassionate caregiver, passed away on May 21, 2023, after a short but immensely courageous fight with cancer. Toni leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and many cherished memories.
Born on September 17, 1951 to Anthony and Margaret Altier in Dover, OH. She was a fun and loving sister to Mary and John.

Toni spent 51 years with David, who was the love of her life and center of her world. For the past five years, Toni selflessly cared for her husband, who battles dementia. Their enduring love and commitment, fostered over 46 years of marriage, were exemplified through Toni's unfaltering support during his illness. Her devotion knew no bounds, as she provided comfort, companionship, and tender care until the end.

Toni also found an incredible joy in her role as a mother. She was blessed with four children who brought light and so much laughter into her life. Her heart overflowed with happiness as she watched her family grow and flourish.

Toni was equally thrilled by the arrival of each of her seven grandchildren, she prided in their many abilities including art, music, storytelling, and many sports. After nearly three years of separation caused by the pandemic, she finally had the opportunity to meet her youngest grandchild, Sayali, this past October. The love and adoration she held for her grandchildren was unmatched, and her face lit up with pure joy in their presence.

Throughout her professional journey, Toni touched the lives of countless children. She worked for many years at St. Joseph School in Downingtown, PA where she witnessed the growth and development of numerous young minds. Toni's caring nature left an indelible impact on the lives of the children she served.

Additionally, Toni spent the latter part of her professional career with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, where her spirit and commitment to her work were greatly admired.

Toni will forever be remembered as a woman of boundless love, strength, and compassion. Toni's memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, David, children: Daniel O’Brien (Emily), Timothy O’Brien (Emily Talbot), Stephen O’Brien (Rucha Karnik), and Stephanie O’Brien; grandchildren: Connor James O’Brien, Taya Marie Asberry, Cleona Pearl O’Brien, Desmond Cole O’Brien, Clementine Maze O’Brien, Darcy Kate O’Brien, Sayali Karnik O’Brien, brother and sister John Altier (Jan) and Mary Deibel (Paul), and so many dear extended family and friends.

A celebration of Toni's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to The Alzheimer’s Association through your local chapter or alz.org.

May her gentle soul find eternal peace, and may her love and memories continue to shine upon us.
