Obituary

On Friday, January 22, 2021, Nancy M Catton, loving mother to four daughters, passed away peacefully in her home in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania, at the age of 90. She was born in Houston, Texas, on April 8, 1930, to the late Julian and Agnes (Lilienberg) Muench.

Nancy was beautiful, inquisitive, creative, resourceful, and she pursued a variety of interests. She attended Newcomb College in New Orleans and worked as a medical secretary. She received paralegal certification from MCCC. She was a hospice volunteer and drove an ambulance. She dedicated many years to working at Helpline Center
in Landsdale. She had a life-long passion for politics and was area leader of the Democratic National Committee. She was a member of the Thomas Paine Unitarian Fellowship, in Collegeville. Nancy was a talented artist, and received many awards for her works which included pen & ink, charcoal, pastels, pencil, scratchboard, acrylics, and multimedia. She was a former president and member of the Perkiomen Valley Art Center. She possessed a keen attention to detail and kept an accurate log to chronicle events. She was an avid reader and was awed by science and the wonders of nature. She was an outspoken champion of justice for the powerless and underprivileged.

Nancy will be remembered for her dry sense of humor, quick wit, and her love for animals. Fondly we recall her detailed text messages, her many notes, the collections of anecdotes, and the second phone calls that clarify the first phone calls. She enjoyed music, NPR, PBS mysteries, and documentaries. She was seldom far from coffee or dark chocolate, and although she was otherwise a vegetarian, she did love a good fish sandwich. She shared her life generously with her friends and her family. She always enjoyed having pets and, most recently, her beloved cat, Tigger, was a loyal companion at her side.

Nancy is survived by her children: Nanette Alderfer (Harry) of Harleysville, Jeannie Catton, Catherine Jarrett, and Elizabeth Niskala, all of Schwenksville; her grandchildren: Audrey, Harrison, Lindsay, Lane, Julie and John; and her great grandchildren: Molly, Ryan, Cormic and Jack. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by siblings Nils, Robert, Molly and by her beloved son-in-law Robert Jarrett.

Per her wish, her body will be donated to medical research, in the hope of saving the lives of others. A Celebration of Life for Nancy will be at a later date. The Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pennsburg is in charge of her arrangements.
