Katharine B. Ughy, 89 of Pennsburg and formerly of Lansdale, passed away December 18, 2020. She was the widow of Bela Ughy. Born in Darnozseli, Hungary, Katharine was the daughter of the late Janos and Maria (Meszaros) Borbely. She left home after World War II to study accounting and worked as the bookkeeper for a business in Gyor, Hungary. Katharine and her husband bravely fought against Communism on the streets of Gyor during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Soon they fled to Austria before immigrating to the United States to start a new life in Pennsylvania. Katharine found employment as a seamstress in Souderton. She then worked for Ford Electronics-Visteon in Lansdale for over 30 years. A longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lansdale and a founding supporter of the Philadelphia and Vicinity Hungarian Sports Club in Hereford, Katharine liked to bake and cook for her family and friends. She also enjoyed tending to her garden, reading, crocheting, and sewing.
Surviving are children: Steven Ughy and his wife Melissa of Spring Mount; Susan Ughy and her husband Michael Schrank of Royersford; a brother Janos Borbely of Darnozseli, Hungary; a grandson Steven; step grandsons; Christopher Schrank and Michael Schrank (wife Ashley) and great granddaughter Ariana. She was predeceased by siblings: Magdalin Borbely (Sister Petra O.S.M.), Gizela Varga and Stephen Borbely.
