Obituary for Earl Schaffer

Earl Schaffer, 86, of Barto PA was promoted to glory on Thursday, November 19th 2020. Earl was born into a large family on November 14th, 1934 in Oneonta NY to the late John Schaffer Sr and the late Hazel (Baker) Schaffer. He was the loving husband of the late Delores Mae (Russell) Schaffer for 58 years, and the loving husband of Joan (Wallace) Schaffer for 5 years until his death.
Upon his graduation from Oneonta High School in 1952, he was employed by the Oneonta Oil and Fuel Co. He entered the Salvation Army School for Officers Training and was commissioned as an officer in 1954. He and his wife Delores served as Corps Officers in various cities for 25 years, followed by an additional 17 years as an administrator for the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers. He served as General Secretary of Adult Rehab Command in New York City for 3 years until retiring.
Deeply committed to his personal faith, he dedicated his life to the service of others in the name of the Lord, Jesus. After marrying Joan, Earl shared the year between Pennsylvania and Florida. He was highly involved with activities at both of his churches, Brooksville Wesleyan Church and Butter Valley Community Church in Bally, PA. Earl enjoyed traveling, fishing, painting, woodworking and adored the game of golf. Above all of these, Earl was a beloved family man who was most happy sharing in laughter and spending time with his family. He was a blessing to everyone that he met, and he will be deeply missed.
Surviving are sons: Jon, and his wife Penny of Douglassville, PA; Eric, and his wife Becky of Wilkes-Barre, PA; sister: Elizabeth of Norwich, NY; six grandchildren: Douglas, Erica, Jon, Kaitlyn, Jacob, and Isaak; and nine great-grandchildren: Aaron, Alexa, Joshua, Charlette, Rose, Caleb, Kennedy, Jaden and Arianna.
A Memorial Service will be held at Butter Valley Community Church on a future date. Burial Services will be private.
