Obituary for Dorothy May Hagenbuch (Reiss)

Dorothy (Reiss) Hagenbuch, 98, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 16th, 2020, at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center, in Richlandtown. She was the beloved wife of John Hagenbuch, who died unexpectedly years earlier at age 59. Born in Creamery, PA, Dorothy, or Dot, as friends would call her, was the daughter of the late Melvin and Ella (Zigler) Reiss. She grew up in Lederach and Hoppenville, PA, where her family owned general stores and farmed. Dorothy was the sexton at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Pennsburg, from the 1970s until the late 1990s. She ensured that the church was always neat and ready to receive worshippers and children taking Sunday School lessons. Before that, she was employed at the former El Rio (Rex) Sewing Factory, in East Greenville. She would later apply those skills to create many Halloween costumes for her family. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a Brownie troop leader to her children. Her greatest joy was spending time with family playing games, mini golfing, baking cookies, and brewing dandelion wine.
Dorothy is survived by her son James A. Hagenbuch of Pennsburg, and his wife Janice; and her daughter Jane A., wife of David Wolf of East Greenville. Dorothy was a grandmother who leaves behind Suzanne Burns of Kutztown, PA; Jessica Robinson of Menomonee Falls, WI; and Lauren Wolf of Vienna, VA. She also leaves behind great grandchildren Rachel and Mason Burns.
Services will be private and she will be interred with her husband in St. Mark’s Lutheran Cemetery in Pennsburg.
The family is suggesting that donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org, 617 Main St A, Hellertown, PA 18055.
The Falk Funeral Home in Pennsburg is in charge of her arrangements. Please visit their "Book of Memories" at falkfuneralhomes.com.
