Obituary for Bernice Mae Hillegass

Bernice M. Hillegass, 93, of East Greenville, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2023. Born in East Greenville, she was the daughter of the late George and Viola (Hagenbuch) Hillegass. She was a graduate of East Greenville High School and the Allentown Business School. Bernie worked first for Pennsburg Textile for 10 years and then she worked for Knoll in East Greenville for 36 years before retiring in 1993. She was an active member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ where she taught fourth grade in Sunday School, sang on the choir, and was a member of the Women’s Fellowship and oversaw the Fellowship Hall for over 20 years. She was also a member of the Upper Perkiomen Senior Center and the Goshenhoppen Historians. She was an avid bowler, and traveled to tournaments around the country. She also enjoyed traveling and traveled to both our National Parks and internationally.

She is survived by her sister, Phyllis Ackerman of Red Hill, and a nieces and nephews: Constance (Mark) Reynolds of Glen Burnie, MD, C. Michael Ackerman (Lori) of Fleetwood, Angela (Robert) Hunter of Ocean Pines, MD, and Stephen Ackerman (Sheri) of Emmaus. She was predeceased by her half sister, Florence McCoy.

All are invited to a viewing from 10 – 11 am on Saturday, January 28, in the church parlor at New Goshenhoppen UCC 1070 Church Rd, East Greenville. There will be a service in the church sanctuary at 11 am. She will be laid to rest in the church graveyard privately.
