Obituary for Barbara Chichak (Partyka)

Barbara Chichak, 88, of Perkiomenville, PA and formerly of Eynon, PA passed away on November 11, 2020 following a long battle with dementia. Born in Eynon in 1931, Barbara was a daughter of the late Paul and Anna (Engler) Partyka. Barbara is a graduate of Archbald High School. On July 2, 1955, she married Francis Chichak and they remained together until his death in 1997. Following her marriage, she and her husband moved to California. There, Barbara was employed by Rocketdyne for 13 years, before moving back to Eynon and establishing a family. Barbara then became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.

Deeply religious, Barbara was a lifelong member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, Eynon and attended daily mass until it became too difficult. She was a member of the church’s Sacred Heart and Altar & Rosary society and was an annual volunteer at the church picnic.

Barbara never had a driver’s license, and it was not unusual to see her walking to nearby towns to run errands. She was an avid sewer and quilter and an excellent cook known for her pierogi, cabbage rolls, soups, kolachi and lekvar squares. She also loved to read, especially in the evening before bed.

Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Notartomaso Alarcon of Reading, PA, of whom Barbara often said “adopting you was the best thing I ever did”; 3 grandchildren: Isabella, Antonio, and Lucia Notartomaso, whom Barbara adored and enjoyed spoiling; son-in-law and main caregiver, Rob Notartomaso, of Perkiomenville, with whom Barbara resided the past 7 years; son-in-law Dan Alarcon, and step-grandchildren Hannah and Isabel Alarcon, all of Reading. Barbara is also survived by siblings: Frances Eiva, of Linden NJ; Betty Dolinak, Paul and Joseph Partyka, all of Eynon; and Gabriel, of Liberty, PA; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Lorraine Mauriello and Mary Ann Vanyo.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 19th at St Mary of Czestochowa Church, 417 Main Street, Eynon. Interment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Parish, 429 Church Street, Archbald, PA 18403. The Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pennsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
