Obituary for Rev. Dr. Albert E. Teske

Rev. Dr. Albert Ernest Teske, 94, of Richlandtown passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26th, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Mabel (Mayer) Teske. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Albert R. and Paula (Hellwig) Teske. Rev. Teske, graduating from Northeast High School, Philadelphia in 1946. He attended Lakeland College in Plymouth, Wisconsin and then transferred to and earned his BA from Ursinus College. He returned to the Mission House in Plymouth where he received his Bachelor of Divinity. He was ordained on June 21, 1953 in Philadelphia. He later received his Doctor of Divinity from Ursinus College in 1983. His career began as pastor at Linfield United Church of Christ followed by serving at Woodcrest UCC in Philadelphia.
In 1965 he began his ministry at New Goshenhoppen UCC in East Greenville where he served until 1994. Upon retiring he was honored with the title of Pastor Emeritus. During his tenure at New Goshenhoppen, he established and encouraged many ministries including a bus ministry, ministry to the physically and mentally challenged, audio & video ministries long before the advent of Zoom, and was involved in several renovations and historical pursuits within the church & greater community.
Rev. Teske was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Penn Southeast Conference and served on numerous committees at the conference throughout his tenure. He was a Delegate to two General Synods of the United Church of Christ. In addition, Pastor Teske served as a member and past Board President of the Wyncote Church Home, member of the Board of Directors of Cedar Crest College, Ursinus College, the Upper Perkiomen Manor, Red Hill, the Upper Perkiomen Valley Library, the Community Nurse Agency, the Open Line, the Upper Perkiomen Community Council, the Upper Perkiomen Meals On Wheels Program, and the Community Counseling Services, Pottstown. He was a former Troop Committee member of Boy Scout Troup, 108, East Greenville. He received the Distinguished Service Award for Community Work by the Upper Perkiomen Jaycees in 1972.
In recent years, he served as an interim and supply pastor at numerous churches throughout the Penn Southeast and Penn Northeast Conferences of the United Church of Christ, as well as serving as a volunteer chaplain at the Phoebe Home in Allentown. He also lectured at numerous retirement centers that offered Lifelong Learning Courses.
Pastor Teske is survived by his grandson: Ashton Teske, of New York City, and an extended family of in-laws including: Alice Paci, of Philadelphia, Virginia Ohntrup, of Avalon, NJ, Dolores Graefe, of Jenkintown, Marie Donlon, of Manahawkin, NJ, Raymond Mayer, of Rydal, PA, and Doris DePorter, of Horsham; and many nieces & nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son, Mark, and his siblings: Heinz Teske and Hildegard Marett.
A viewing will be from 9-11 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Falk Funeral Home & Crematory, Pennsburg is honored to be in charge of his arrangements.
